The New Castle of Manzanares el Real, also known as the Castle of Mendoza, is one of Spain's best-preserved 15th-century castles. Just north of Madrid, at the foot of the Guadarrama Mountains, stands Castillo de Manzanares el Real, a picture-perfect castle that might surprise you with its completeness. Built in the late 15th century by the powerful Mendoza family, this 'new' castle (so-called to distinguish it from an older fortress nearby) remains remarkably intact.
