About Alcazaba of Almería
The Alcazaba of Almería features towering ramparts that climb the rocky hillside – it's the largest Muslim fortress in Europe. The Alcazaba of Almería is a colossal fortress complex overlooking the city and bay of Almería. Built beginning in the 10th century by the Caliphate of Córdoba, this Alcazaba expanded over time to include three lines of walls climbing the hillside. In fact, it is the largest Muslim citadel in Spain and all of Europe, sprawling over 35,000 square meters.
