The famous cave district of Guadix contains over 2,000 underground dwellings, creating one of Europe's largest cave-dwelling communities. These unique homes, carved into the soft clay of the surrounding hills, maintain a constant year-round temperature of around 19°C (66°F) regardless of external conditions, making them naturally sustainable and energy-efficient. Many are surprisingly luxurious inside, with modern amenities while preserving their traditional character. Visitors can tour several caves turned into museums to experience this unusual form of living.
