Basílica de Santa María la Mayor
About Basílica de Santa María la Mayor
This magnificent church is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the Valencia region. Its spectacular main portal, known as "La Puerta de las Vírgenes" (Door of the Virgins), features intricate stone carvings of angels and saints. Inside, the spiral staircase leading to the choir is a masterpiece of medieval engineering, built without a central support column. The church also houses a rare two-story choir and an impressive 18th-century baroque organ that still functions today, used for concerts during the annual Early Music Festival held in the town.
