About Coca Castle

Coca Castle's peach-hued brick walls and elaborate battlements showcase the pinnacle of Mudéjar Gothic style. The Castle of Coca is a stunning deviation from the norm: unlike most European castles built of stone, Coca is constructed almost entirely of brick, in a Mudéjar style that fuses Gothic architecture with Islamic design. Built in the 15th century by Archbishop Fonseca (with royal permission from King Enrique IV), this castle was as much a status symbol as a fortress. Its walls form a formidable double enclosure with a deep dry moat and multiple polygonal towers.
