Corral de Comedias
About Corral de Comedias
Built in 1628, the Corral de Comedias of Almagro is the only fully preserved theater from Spain's Golden Age. This unique open-air venue continues to function much as it did four centuries ago, with performances still held in its intimate courtyard setting. The annual Almagro International Classical Theater Festival held here each July is one of Europe's most important celebrations of classical theater, bringing the works of Spanish playwrights like Lope de Vega and Calderon de la Barca back to life in their original setting.
