The Mercado Central de Valencia is one of the oldest running food markets in Europe and one of the largest fresh produce markets in the world. Opened in 1928 by King Alfonso XIII, this magnificent Art Nouveau (Modernismo Valenciano) market hall covers over 8,000 square meters beneath spectacular stained-glass domes topped by parrot and swordfish weather vanes.

Architecture & Culinary Splendor

With over 1,200 stalls, the Mercado Central is the beating gastronomic heart of the Valencian Community:

  • Central Bar by Ricard Camarena: Michelin-starred chef Ricard Camarena’s market counter serving gourmet sandwiches (*bocadillos*), crispy fried calamari, and seasonal tapas.
