Beyond Dalí, Figueres was also the birthplace of Narcís Monturiol, inventor of the first successful machine-powered submarine. Key attractions include the impressive Sant Ferran Castle (1753), the Technical Museum of the Empordà, and excellent high-speed rail connections including direct TGV services to Paris.
